Even though the holidays are over, we are still festive here at Cooke.
January is Kindness Month and we are showing all the love. We have combined our love of being Kind with our love of Reading and we have the Cooke Kindness Book Club. We have had amazing acts of Kindness such as the Virginia Beach Deputies coming in to read to our classes! In honor of the Cooke Kindness Book Club, each week in January has a theme. January 6-10: Theme Challenge - Make Someone Smile January 13-17: Theme Challenge - Make a New Friend January 20-24: Theme Challenge - Be Helpful January 27-31: Theme Challenge - Show Gratitude We have been overwhelmed with all the Kindness shown at Casa de Cooke! What to Look Forward to:
A sincere thank you to my 5th grade parents who have completed the Middle School Registration process with me. Thank you for all your support! I cannot believe our babies are almost middle schoolers!

The holiday season is officially upon us and it is time to CELEBRATE!
We have been getting into the spirit by celebrating our Culture! Guidance Lessons have been geared toward being Cross-Culturally Competent. Students have shared their own personal cultures through celebrations, family, food, and more! Each student completed a personal culture sheet and shared similarities and differences; we celebrated both! What to Look Forward to:
Upcoming Important Dates: Brickell Academy Info Night: December 5, 2020 Plaza MYP Info Night: November 20 and 21, 2020 VB Middle Art Info Night: December 10, 2020 Dance Education Open House: January 9, 2020 VBMS Info Night: December 10, 2020 October 2019 Happy fall! I cannot believe we are already in our second month of school; time has flown! This month our focus is on being Personally and Socially Responsible. In grades K-5 we are showcasing this through Bullying Prevention. Topics include the Bullying Checklist, how to report bullying, and how to be an Upstander. We are exploring the differences of rude/mean and bullying through Prezi and are testing that knowledge with a fun game of Kahoot in grades 3-5. In K-2, the Kahoot we take as a class is focusing on how to be an Upstander. Don't forget the October Student of the Month shows Diligence and Begins with the End in Mind!
13% of our school population is federally connected. In order to ensure new students with military affiliations feel connected to our school and community, we now have Military Peer Mentors. Three fifth graders, who have a parent in the military, have volunteered to host newly transferred military students. These student hosts will build relationships with our newest Cooke members. Hosting entails conducting a school tour, being a Lunch and PE Buddy, and being a Transportation Assistant. For additional Information, please contact Miss Wright.
September 2019
Although I do enjoy my summer travels, I am beyond excited to see your smiling faces back at school! I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing and amazing break. This month our focus is on Counselor Introductions in grades K-5 with a focus on being Communicators and Collaborators for K-2 and Problem Solvers, Value Creators, and Resilient Learners for 3-5. We are exploring the many facets that involve Counseling using Prezi. In K-1 we are testing that knowledge with a fun game of Kahoot as a class. In 2-5, students are doing a Break-out (think, Escape Room) in order to show their knowledge. Don't forget the September Student of the Month shows Responsibility and is Proactive! We are all saddened by the tragedy at the Municipal Center Friday. We will all stand together to support one another and the children and families of our city. The division's Senior Leadership Team has been working this weekend to have in place counselors, Student Support Services and DOSL staff for anyone having difficulty dealing with their grief. Together we will get through this difficult time. We are here for each other; we are family. I will be doing 39 Acts of Kindness for my 39th birthday this upcoming February 8th. I am challenging my students to also give back. I will posting my acts of kindness on the Morning Announcements and on my Twitter Feed.
